Terms of Service
Effective date: September 13, 2026
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Houselights is a software platform operated by Houselights ("we", "us"). It lets independent show promoters (“Promoters”) publish shows, sell tickets, manage their audience and promote their events, and it lets members of the public (“Buyers”) purchase tickets to those shows. These terms apply to everyone who uses houselights.live, a promoter subdomain, an embedded checkout, or the door scanner (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or purchasing a ticket you agree to them.
2. Promoters are the seller
Every show on Houselights is organised and sold by its Promoter. The Promoter is the merchant of record: ticket payments are made to the Promoter’s own Stripe account, the Promoter sets prices, capacity, age restrictions and the refund policy for each show, and the Promoter is responsible for putting on the show as described. Houselights provides the software that makes the sale possible; we are not a party to the ticket contract between a Buyer and a Promoter, and we do not guarantee that any show will take place.
3. Buying tickets
- The price you see at checkout includes the ticket price, any service fee the show charges, and payment processing. The total is shown before you pay.
- Tickets are delivered by email to the address you enter. Keep it accurate; you can retrieve your tickets from the link in that email at any time.
- Each ticket carries a code that admits one person once. Do not share screenshots of your tickets.
- Refunds follow the show’s refund policy, which is shown on the show page and at checkout. See our refund policy page for how requests and cancellations work.
- If a show is cancelled by the Promoter, you are refunded in full to your original payment method.
4. Fees
Promoters pay Houselights a subscription according to the plan they choose; Houselights does not take a per-ticket fee from Promoters. On the Free plan, Buyers pay a service fee of $1.50 plus 2% of the ticket subtotal per order, which is collected by Houselights. On paid plans the Promoter decides whether to charge a service fee and keeps it. Payment processing fees charged by Stripe are passed through to the Buyer on every plan. Current plan prices are on the pricing page.
5. Promoter obligations
- Describe your shows accurately, honour the tickets you sell, and apply the refund policy you published.
- Keep your Stripe account in good standing. Funds from a show are released after the show ends, following the payout hold described in your dashboard, so that refund obligations can be met.
- Send email only to people who bought from you or opted in, keep the unsubscribe link in every marketing message, and stop sending to anyone who unsubscribes.
- You are responsible for taxes on your ticket sales and for any licences or permits your show requires.
- You own the content you upload (names, images, descriptions) and grant us a licence to display it in order to run the Service.
6. Chargebacks and disputes
A payment dispute raised by a Buyer’s bank is handled through the Promoter’s Stripe account. Houselights supplies the order and scan records that help resolve it. Repeated disputes may lead us to hold payouts for longer or suspend a Promoter account.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use the Service to sell tickets to events that do not exist, to resell tickets you do not control, to send spam, to scrape data, to probe or overload our systems, or to do anything unlawful. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms. Promoters can close their account at any time; shows with sold tickets stay live until they have taken place so that Buyers are not stranded.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep the Service available and publish its current status at houselights.live/status, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. We may change the Service and these terms; material changes are announced to Promoters by email and take effect no sooner than 14 days after the notice.
9. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Houselights is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to any user in a twelve-month period is limited to the amounts that user paid to Houselights in that period. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions and notices go to team@houselights.live. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.
